What Halloween Means for a Shiba Inu

When this time a year comes around, the humans tend to act weird. We're pretty sure this is nothing new to everydog, but since we are Shiba Inu, we are posting some pictures (2 old ones of us and 2 we found on the Internet, with links to their originals) of what it means to be a Shiba Inu on Halloween....

Akira decked out for Halloweenie

This is what Shiro thinks of pumpkins: Let's try to eat them!

More (yes, even more cruelty to shiba kind):
And, apparently, a whole set of photos from a gathering specifically instituted for the Halloweenie Humiliation of Shiba kind: Shibaween

Breed Feature of the Week: Irish Wolfhound

The Irish Wolfhound is an ancient breed of dog originall bred for hunting wolf, hence the name. They are the tallest dog breed in the world. They have been said to be the equal of a lion in the past, but are gentle in nature towards humans. Their motto is "Gentle when stroked, fierce when provoked." This particular Irish Wolfhound is Liam, who lives in Pittsburgh. Liam is a mellow dog who loves to go on ambling walks and greet all his friends every day.

Any Blogging Irish Wolfhounds out there?

New Feature (Breed All About it!)

We are starting a new (maybe weekly) feauture of having a post about a particular breed, and then inviting any blogging dogs of that breed to respond so we can make new friends. You don't have to be a pure breed to respond, if you share some of the characteristics and think this may be a dominant breed in your background, you qualify. The first one is coming up shortly, on Irish Wolf hounds, so stay tuned!

Sorry Doggies!

I am writing to apologize for myself and keeping the boys away recently. I was out of the country for a couple of weeks in Trinidad and Tobago, and they were unable to get the Brother off the computer long enough to blog while I was gone. As an offering to make up for their forced absence, I am posting two pics of me with some puppies on Lopinot Plantation in Trinidad. All of the dogs sort of flocked to me there and followed me around everywhere. I hope the boys aren't too jealous, but thought you all might like to see the pics.

What is the meaning of this?

Well, obviously Shiba Inu is not one of the choices. We are not that puffy to begin with.

You Are a Chow Puppy

Don't fence me in!
You're an independent spirit that won't be tied down.

Attn Joe Stains and Tanner: Were You Aware of This?

So, our Sis took a quiz to find out what kind of dog breed she is. We thought she was a human dog breed, but what do we know. And here were her results. We are a little shocked.

You Are a Boston Terrier Puppy

Aggressive, wild, and rambunctious.

Deep down, you're just a cuddle monster.

Akira's Thoughts on the Matter

I was browsing some of our pals bloggys, and had some thoughts on these subjects as well.

First: Girl Girl has a lovely stuffed dog. It brought back fond memories for me of my favorite Booda Dog pal as a 4 month old puppy. The Booda Dog had a tragic wrestling accident. He just couldn't hold in his stuffing.

Next: Simba mentioned that some dogs like to sleep on their backs with their tummies skywards. Shiro hardly ever does this. He generally sleeps in a tightly curled ball and opens his eyes every 2 minutes to check his surroundings and jumps up every 5 minutes to patrol. I, however, am a champion sleeper, and love to relax and stretch out on my back.

Thirdly: Joey and Tanner's Mom must have a psychic connection with our Sis (Maybe it's the Pittsburgh thing), cause she found the Fufu Berry Soda too. Maybe they were meant to find it to make us smile remembering our buddy.

Love,
Akira
p.s. Next time maybe Shiro will comment on some more bloggys!

Friends (and Enemies)

Here's a run down of the OTHER animals is our Sis's life. As if we weren't enough! Hrumph.

Kasey is an older female German Shepard that lives next door to our Grandparents. I played with her through the fence when I visited Grandma. We ran back and forth the backyards with each other. She is pretty nice.

Fi Fi is the cat of our Sis's boss (James) for her part-time job. Fi Fi likes to press her forehead against Sis's forehead and play with her little mouse toys. Grrr. Cats.

Here is a Rooster that lives in James's backyard (along with two hens)

Betty is a 13 year old female Border Collie (or was it Border Shepard, we forget?) who belongs to a painter friend of Sarah's, John Fleenor.

Akira

Be Yourself!

We found this card at Chronicle Books that reminded us a bit of Joey and Tanner, and the sentiment was right on: BE YOURSELF! We love our doggy-bloggy friends for just that reason! They are great selves!!

Digging into the Archive

This is a picture from way back in 2002 when our Sis went to Stratford, Ontario, Canada. She met this cool dog there. We thought you'd be interested in seeing such a cool dog!

So true...

We found this graphic on a myspace comments page. It is so sad, but true. Sometimes we even get blamed when the humans are at fault!

Magnetic Poetry Example

Sis used the Magnetic Poetry site, using the "Garden" kit to write a doggy-poem. She accidently left out one word "you," because she's tired, we guess, but it's still pretty nice and we thought we'd share it with you! Be careful trying that site, it gets a bit addicting (this is her 5th poem she made with magnetic words!). It should read:

"to my dog"

i believe in you,
my moist nosed dog

something special emerges
to protect me

you are as sacred as fresh fertile earth,
wild as the vines' secret song

you are my ancient sanctuary
a whispered dream
my only truth

Product Alert: Dog Lover Magnetic Poetry

Our Sis always enjoys magnetic poetry. She happened to be on the Magnetic Poetry webpage (http://www.magneticpoetry.com) where, by the way, you can compose online magnetic poetry with a few of the kits, and she saw this: the Magnetic Poetry Dog Lover Kit
It costs $9.99. The description reads:
With the Dog Lover Kit you can finally give your pals the poetic praise they deserve. Create captions for your favorite puppy pics or original poems inspired by your favorite Fido. Includes words like wag, hound, bark, leash, play, companion, and chew.

Holiday Spirit Dog Of the Day: Number 9

This is actually for Thursday (Butchy and Snickers were for Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively). *Drum Roll Please*

The Holiday Spirit Dog of the Day, Number 8, Award goes to....................

M.J.!!!!!!!!!!!!

M.J. is really getting into the Holiday Spirit this year! She has spent time romping in the snow, helping her Dad set up a winter village (complete with dog treat in case the villagers get hungry), and dressing up as Mrs. Santa Paws to visit Santa Paws, himself!
M.J. is a nearly six-year-old Pitbull cross, who lives with her mom and dad and human brother and crabby feline sister (aged 19). Make sure to check out M.J.'s House of Slobber, her wonderful bloggy that always has grrreat pictures!
